Evan Luey began his culinary journey humbly enough as a part time dishwasher in high school. He carried that basic but necessary skill with him when asked to join his brother Scott in the opening of Jamie Scott’s Downtowner in Gloversville, NY some twelve years ago.
During Evan’s apprenticeship at the Downtowner, he soon learned he had a talent for meal preparation and a flair for the pairing of ingredients. Evan began to learn some of his first contributions to the eclectic menu at the Downtowner, under the guidance of Chef Dan Spitz and Chef Jason Knapp respectively.
When the Downtowner closed, he worked at the Pine Brook Country Club restaurant. Evan continued his growth and range as a chef by assuming responsibility for developing and preparing a broad menu of New American cuisine.
Evan was then free to explore and enhance his skills as the head chef of The Double Eagle Restaurant at Kingsboro Golf Course in Gloversville, NY. Evan’s pork chop and Filet Au Poivre entrees quickly became the talk of the town and his mother’s perennial favorites.
Most recently, Chef Evan assumed the responsibility of Executive Chef during the Covid-impacted start up of The Local Five & Dine Restaurant in Northville, NY. Evan’s efforts during the life of The Local drew customers from Saratoga Springs, Queensbury, metro New York, and many other areas.
Evan lives in Northville, NY with his restaurant-born wife Mika, their adorable daughter Kya and one on the way. With Mika and Kya as his inspiration, Evan and Mika have launched their own enterprise – Kyanite Catering. Kyanite is the perfect platform for continuing Evan’s passion to provide clients with memorable and unique dining experiences in the comfort of each customer’s home.
